Assistant Vice Provost for Workforce Equity and Diversity
Luis A. Piñero is the assistant vice provost for the Office for Equity and Diversity (OED). He joined the Office of Affirmative Action and Compliance, OED’s predecessor, on August 16, 1982, and has served the office in progressively responsible positions during a 28-year career. He holds a B.A. from Marquette University (1979), and an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison (1982). He is certified as a Global Learning Partners Fellow, Vella Approach to Sustainable Learning (1999), and as a Center for Creative Leadership—Benchmarks® Feedback Facilitator (1998). He was appointed to his current position on February 3, 2000. The assistant vice provost serves as campuswide strategic planner and consultant on workforce equity and diversity, related professional development, and human resources planning. He provides oversight and strategic direction to ten OED staff members and collaborates with academic leaders, employing units, governance bodies and labor organizations to promote workforce diversity, nurture human resources, and attain campus strategic priorities.
Critical priorities: OED staffing and professional development; enhancing AA/EEO compliance; technical assistance and development opportunities in support of Equity and Diversity Committees and the Divisional Disability Representatives’ network; campuswide Learning Communities; the Sexual Harassment Information Project; collaboration with the OED Advisory Committee; collaboration with WISELI; collaboration with the Theatre for Cultural and Social Awareness; collaboration with the Office of the Vice Provost for Diversity and Climate; OED web resources enhancements; supporting and enhancing campuswide, climate-focused initiatives.
