Advisory Committee
Equity and Diversity
Committees advise deans, directors, and unit heads on equity and
diversity issues, and report on an annual basis to the Advisory
Committee for the Office for Equity and Diversity for coordination
with the center. These school, college, and divisional-level committees
also coordinate with campus-level governance committees such as
the Committee on Women in the University, the Committee on Access
and Accommodation in Instruction, and the Committee on Academic
Affairs of Minority/Disadvantaged Students on issues of mutual interest,
and the University Committee, as appropriate.
Responsibilities of
the Equity and Diversity Committees shall include, but not be limited
to, the following:
advising the dean or
director on the status of underutilized groups, particularly with
respect to recruitment, retention, conditions in the workplace,
and knowledge and compliance with federal law and regulation;
serving as a departmental
or unit resource on equity and diversity issues;
reviewing recruitment
practices and policies and proposing amendments to such practices
and policies when appropriate;
advising search committees
on optimum strategies for obtaining diverse candidate pools;
providing information
on strategies to improve the recruitment and retention of underutilized
groups;
receiving equity and
diversity related concerns from within departments and programs
and handling or referring them as appropriate;
and working together
with the deans or directors to compile an annual report as the deans
or directors and committee might deem useful. Such a report will
be forwarded to the OED and its advisory committee.

6.22 Office for Equity and Diversity Advisory
Committee for
A. MEMBERSHIP. Office for Equity and Diversity
Advisory Committee shall consist of the following
members:
1.Seven faculty members appointed for terms of four
years.
2.Three academic staff members.
3.Two students.
4.One classified staff member.
B. FUNCTIONS.
1.Works with the Director of the Office for Equity and Diversity, providing consultation and oversight and advises
the university administration and governance organizations on policy
issues related to affirmative action and compliance.
2.Reviews periodically the discrimination and harassment
complaint procedures for effectiveness and appropriateness.
3.Reviews the functions of the Office for Equity and Diversity
in carrying out the Office's mission.
4.Review campus committees pursuing discrimination
goals regarding missions and coordination.
5.Reports annually in June to the Academic Staff Assembly
and Chancellor as well as to the Faculty Senate
